Teams of character

Most, I think, would agree, that a high-performing team requires a population of high-character individuals.

What is character? How is it developed? Can it be recognized if one does not possess it?

In his seminar on Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics, Hillsdale’s Larry Arnn says to his students:

“You know what’s going to dominate your careers, in so far as the domination is within your power? Your character. It’ll be overwhelmingly important. Credentials matter right at the beginning, but then, a human being, fully at work, reveals itself, and the Good ones get promoted, in any Just situation. So it matters what you are, very much.” (2:30).

Students think they need degrees and practical skills and money. Sure. But more so they need character. Virtue.
